The idea for this new stitching template came when I was unboxing my new Eversewn Celine sewing machine. Yet again I had a machine with dozens of decorative stitches, but no convenient way to know how they would look on my fabrics.

I happened to have a stack of precut 5-inch squares on my cutting table and grabbed two and began stitching just for fun. The size of the fabric, the already pinked edges, and the small lines of stitching were perfect for testing each decorative stitch.

Then I stitched a buttonhole in the corner of the swatch and a lightbulb went off in my head - what an easy way to hang this and be able to keep multiple swatches organized together!

After a few tweeks, I designed the Swatcher Template that makes marking a 5-inch square of fabric super easy and fast. Not only do you have space to test your decorative stitches, you can also try out your machine's buttonholes and built-in alphabets.

While swatching designs on my different sewing machines, I found that each machine had very different methods for accessing the stitches, setting up the buttonholes and programming alphabets. I had to refer to my manuals many times - even for machines I've owned for years!

As I continued swatching and playing, I discovered that using decorative stitches is harder than it seems. By having a simple and fast method for testing the designs, I learned loads about my machines, how to access the designs, and how to quickly use them in my projects.
