More Ruler Quilting Tutorials

If you're short on time, here's a really quick ruler quilting video (it's under 1 minute) on quilting Matrix, one of my favorite quilting designs:

I explain the line spacing process in this video using the Mini Slide Ruler. Using the etched lines on the ruler to create curving lines evenly spaced 1/2-inch apart.

Ruler Quilting on a Frame

If you're needing a fun design for your quilt borders, here's a video to guide you through a very simple echoing design using a straight edge ruler like Slice or Ditcher:

This is a video from the Friendship Quilt Along and I love this combination of free hand, free motion quilting to create the center spiral, and the very structured, straight line echoing in the border.

I hope you can see the advantage of using a larger quilting machine from this video. With a 21-inch longarm machine I was able to quilt the spiral over that 16 inch quilt block in one pass. That is a lot of creative space to play!

To quilt the border around the block, I rolled the block forward and quilted the upper section, then rolled it back to quilt the lower section. This is one of the advantages of using a rolling rail frame - its as easy as unlocking and rolling forward and back to get to the next section of the quilt.

To finish our ruler quilting adventures, here's a video on a small home sewing machine in a table and we're quilting feathers in a leaf in the Dream Big Panel:

In this video, I go into a LOT of details about feathers and fitting them into an irregular leaf shape on the quilt panel. I love using the Feather Ruler and this project was a fun challenge for the way I designed the ruler.
