Living Feathers
Hi ,

I have a new free motion design for you this week called Living Feathers.

This beautiful quilting design combines feathers and leaf shapes to create a rich texture for your quilts. It is a bit slow because there are a lot of steps that go into every leaf shape.


I originally created this design in 2011 when machine quilting the background of Emergence, one of my favorite goddess quilts. As you can see below, this is a perfect background quilting design and I love the bright green texture it added to this area.

Yes, you can definitely machine quilt Living Feathers on a bigger, bed quilting scale. Just start with a much bigger leaf shape so you can fill the space with large, plump feathers, and expand each element with rows of echo quilting.

Juki Exceed F400 Sewing Machine Review

I'm pleased to share another sewing machine review, this time for the Juki Exceed F400, a small home machine that typically retails for under $1000.


Originally I got this sewing machine as a backup to the Juki TL2010Q so when my main machine needed to be serviced I would have another machine to use.

Imagine my surprise when I ended up liking this little Juki F400 so much that it became my main machine for quilting!

This machine has many features that I love with only a few downsides, and is one of the few sewing machines I've found that could be used for piecing AND quilting.

All Three Colorways for Wholecloth Fabric Kit Back in Stock

We managed to assemble a few more fabric kits last week and are happy to say all three colors are available again!

Yes, this of course includes the purple Plum color, which is by far the most popular of the three and will not be around for long.

This bright and cheery fabric is from Island Batik and the kit contains the fabric, batting, and thread which you'll need to make the Heart & Feather Wholecloth quilt.

This is one project you can jump into and not get bogged down with months and months of tedious quilting. It will give you a taste for wholecloth quilting without becoming overwhelming.
