New Block Party Pattern

Published: Mon, 02/01/16

HiĀ ,

Ready for the next block in the Machine Quilting Block Party? Last month over one thousand quilters joined this new quilt along and learned how to piece and machine quilt a terrific Half Square Sun Block.

This month we're expanding our skills with a beautiful Blazing Sawtooth block. You'll learn how to piece half square triangles and flying geese units, and how to machine quilt your block with many skill building designs.

Remember, the block patterns go on sale for the first 5 days of the month so make sure to pick it up this week so you get the best deal on your patterns.
Machine Quilting Inspiration
The Free Motion Quilting Project has been a busy place the last two weeks! Check out the latest videos posted to inspire your quilting creativity:

How to Piece a Blazing Sawtooth Block - Learn how to piece the next block in the Machine Quilting Block Party. Find tips on piecing flying geese units and how to attach the border strips without lopping off points.

Machine Quilting over Intense Patchwork - Last week several quilters asked about quilting over patchwork quilts with lots of little pieces and seam allowances. I've shared a short video with tips on quilting this style of quilt much easier.

Practice Isn't Pretty - Even I have to practice! I'm learning free motion couching and making several, very ugly practice sandwiches. While it's frustrating to feel like you're not getting any better, the key to building skill is always going to be practice, practice, practice.

How I Nearly Ruined my Favorite Craft - I was a really crafty kid and in middle school I got into bead weaving. In this video I share why beadwork was nearly ruined because I put too many rules and restrictions on how I could create.
Quick and Easy Baby Quilt
This past week I was sent a pack of Tonga Treats from Timeless Treasures to play with. These precut packs of batik fabrics are awesome treats for beginning quilters because each pack comes with a super easy quilt pattern. Just grab a treat and you're ready to create a new quilt!

I started with a Tonga Treat Mini Petals which should be easy to find in your local quilt shop in a few weeks (February 2016). It includes a super easy quilt pattern that will create a beautiful patchwork baby quilt.

But there's just one problem. The instructions just say "quilt as desired" so how are we going to quilt it?

Quilting a real quilt is one of the best ways you can practice a design. Your stitches may not be perfect, but by the time you finish the project you will have gained so much skill and experience with the quilting process.

If the idea of quilting a real quilt scares you, remember the Machine Quilting Block Party is a great project for building your skills one block at a time. Click Here to join the party!

Let's go quilt,
