Learn to Quilt a Sun Star Block

Published: Wed, 03/02/16

Hi ,

Welcome to the beautiful month of March. We're kicking this month off with a new block pattern for the Machine Quilting Block Party!

I'm calling this block a Sun Star and it's entirely created with half square triangles. This month we're really going to dig into this patchwork unit and learn how to piece it perfectly to create this beautiful block.
We're also learning how to quilt Echo Shell, one of my favorite designs that will help you build new skills for echoing and travel stitching. I decided to change things up this month by using two colors of thread on block: Isacord Silky White and Pumpkin and I love the effect.

This series of patterns is designed for beginning level quilters with extra tips and videos detailing how to prepare and cut your fabric, how to mark the designs on your block, and how to baste the layers together. Click Here to find all the videos and posts shared for this project so far.

Remember it's never too late to join the Machine Quilting Block Party and begin building awesome new skills for patchwork and machine quilting. Each block teaches you something new, but in a small enough format that it doesn't feel overwhelming.

All block patterns are on sale for just $4.99 each so now is the perfect time to get started. Click here to find patterns for blocks 1, 2, and 3.

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
