Cabin Fever? New Quilt Block Pattern

Published: Fri, 07/01/16

Hi ,

It's the first day of July, which means a new block in the Machine Quilting Block Party is out!

So far we've pieced and quilted six fun and simple blocks and now that we've crossed the halfway point we're starting number seven - Cabin Fever.

With more than half the blocks released, this beautiful sampler quilt is starting to emerge. Yes, you still have time to join in this fun skill-building project.

The best way to get started is to pick up the pattern for block #1. I included a lot of extra tips and frequently asked questions in the first pattern to help you get started. Once you piece and quilt one block, you'll be ready to tackle any block in this Sunshine Surprise sampler!
Super Easy Way to Quilt
Last week I received my Quilty Box for June and was inspired by the included fabric to create a paper pieced quilt top.

When you get struck with a design inspiration please don't question it. There are always a million different ways you could quilt any quilt, but if only one way is speaking to you, follow THAT inspiration!

So I decided to fill the entire quilt with evenly spaced straight lines and to bend those lines around the triangles.

This texture is so subtle, but it really stands out because I used two layers of batting.

Waterfall Bargello Workshop Coming Soon
This week I got back to a fun project I've been working on for the past few months - a beautiful waterfall bargello wallhanging.

After piecing this quilt top, I realized it was such a fun pattern and so easy to put together that it would make a great workshop to teach the basics of bargello style piecing.

The best part is I'll be able to teach you how to quilt bargello quilts too. These can be really tricky quilts to figure out the quilting because the piecing is so busy.

Be looking forward to this new quilting workshop in August and don't forget to pick up the new Cabin Fever block this month!

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
