Sneak Peek New Quilt Along

Published: Wed, 11/16/16

Hi ,

We're nearing the end of this year's Machine Quilting Block Party and you may be wondering what's in store for next year...

So here's a sneak peek!

In 2017 the Machine Quilting Block Party will begin again on January 1st with a new mystery quilt/ This new quilt is called Flower Festival and it's going to be a terrific combination of pieced blocks, a bit of applique, and lots of beautiful quilting.

We will begin Flower Festival on January 1st and it will work exactly like this year with new block patterns released every month and new videos coming out every Monday. I hope you'll quilt along with us for another year and continue building new quilting skills block by block.

No, you don't need to sign up or subscribe in order to participate! Just keep an eye out for newsletters as we begin this new quilt along in January.
How to Quilt a Glitter Star Block
It's hard to believe we're quilting our 11th quilt block. It's been so much fun to quilt along together this year and we just have one more block to go and our Sunshine Surprise quilt will be complete.
I used a wide variety of quilting designs in this block including Zippling and Fuse Fire with lots of straight lines to balance them out. It took a bit longer to quilt this block because I switched from free motion quilting to walking foot quilting and back again.

Switching machine quilting styles like this can make the quilting process easier and it's fun to try out many different designs.

Hello My Quilting Friends Episode 2
Last week we launched our new podcast with a bang and I've been so thrilled with the response! Hello My Quilting Friends Podcast can now be found on iTunes and Google Play, or you can find the episodes linked up here: http://www.buzzsprout.com/70645

This week I've shared a 20 minute episode about finding your core values and using them to help you make better decisions. Unlike goals or priorities, your values are deeper held, intrinsic truths that guide your life.

This has helped me tremendously over the last few weeks, both in making decisions for our business and in what quilt projects to focus on next. Find the episode and full transcript, plus links to everything mentioned right here at LeahDay.com.
FMQ Filler Design #469
This design is a fun combination of two designs we've learned before: Sharp Stippling and Brain Coral. You start with a wiggly flame shape from Sharp Stippling, then echo around it with soft, curving lines like Brain Coral to create a flowing machine quilting design.

I really love this simple quilting texture and combining easy designs to make another easy design.

I think it will make a terrific landscape quilting design to quilt as the sky or ocean. It has just the right amount of flow to make it work perfectly as an All-Over bed quilting design too!

Where do you plan to use this quilting design? If you quilt it, please share a picture with us on the Leah Day Quilting Facebook Group!

Let's go quilt,
