Happy Birthday to the Free Motion Quilting Project

Published: Wed, 08/16/17

Hi ,

Well, it's hard for me to believe, but it's the 8th anniversary of the Free Motion Quilting Project! This week we're celebrating with our biggest sale of the year:
If you've been wanting to dig deeper into quilting and take a class with me, now is your chance to jump into an online and downloadable class at a great price. Almost everything in the quilt shop is on sale this week and you'll find all downloadable patterns, books, and quilting workshops are 50% off!

We've also discounted quilting tools and supplies 15% off as well so you'll find great deals throughout the quilt shop.

It's hard to believe it's only been 8 years - sometimes it feels like decades and sometimes it feels like it couldn't have possibly been that long.

All I know is I feel so thankful that I took a chance, followed my gut, and took the first step on this incredible journey that night in 2009.

Back then James was just two years old and I helped make ends meet with a small skin care website, but only dreamed of being able to focus on my true passion - quilting.
All that summer, I'd quilted and painted Release Your Light, a goddess quilt about releasing your creativity and sharing it with the world.

While making this quilt I created my very first filler design to quilt in the flames around the goddess figure. It made me wonder how many free motion quilting designs I could create.

By the time I finished that quilt, I knew I wanted to start a blog and challenge myself to create new quilting designs every day for a year. It hasn't always been easy and it ended up taking many years to share 365 designs, but I've always come back to my original goal to be creative every day and to share it with the world.

I love teaching online and seeing quilters from everywhere in the world build new skills and gain the confidence to quilt their own quilts. I also love working with my family and building a business that helps quilters learn and grow.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing the videos, commenting and asking questions, and picking up classes and quilting tools from our website. I couldn't do this without you!
Fun Razzle Dazzle Bobbin Work
This year I'm determined to give handmade gifts for Christmas so I've already started on several wall hanging quilts with Wonky Christmas Trees. Last week I shared a video on how to stitch in the ditch on the Grace Qnique table mounted longarm.

This week I'm adding some bling to the quilt surface with bobbin thread work! Click Here to see how I quilted with thick Razzle Dazzle threads in this new video.
When I quilted my first tree, I was kind of upset by it. It just didn't come out as nice as I'd like and I really didn't like the way I quilted around the Christmas tree.

Rather than throw it in the trash or spend hours ripping out stitches, I decided to take my own advice and throw more thread at it.

Make sure to watch the video to learn more tips about bobbin thread work and how to keep plugging even when your project isn't looking the way you'd like.
So that's it for this week! I am so happy to be celebrating our eighth anniversary and feel so thankful you all have joined us on our quilting journey.

Josh and I are so grateful for you watching our youtube videos, downloading our patterns and projects, and supporting our small family business by shopping in our online store.

Please enjoy the sale this week and stock up on new quilting classes, tools, and supplies. Click Here to shop now.

Until next week, let's go quilt!
