Super Threads Thanksgiving Leah Day Style

Published: Thu, 11/23/17

Hi ,

Happy Thanksgiving! This is one of my favorite holidays because I love cooking lots of food and spending time with family and friends. I find I have so many blessings to be thankful for and my heart is filled with gratitude for all the joys and struggles we've overcome this year.

Yes, I'm even thankful for the struggles because without challenges, I don't think the good times would feel quite as good. One of my greatest struggles has also been one of my best triumphs. The new book I've been working on for nearly a year and a half is finally finished and our first set of copies is on its way from the printer. This book has been an epic project and lots of love, sweat, and learning went into every page.

Click Here to find a preorder for the print edition
. I'm going to sign all the preorder print copies so make sure to pick one up today.

The books will begin shipping on December 1st in the order they were received. However, if we run out of the first batch of copies, your book may ship later in mid December when the second shipment arrives.

Oh, we also have a little Thanksgiving sale going on...

Take a Quilting Class with Leah
Would you like to take a quilting class, but without the hassle of hauling your machine and supplies across the country and never having exactly the right tools on hand because you forgot them at home?

That is exactly the reason why I teach quilting classes online through Video Workshops.

Video workshops are allow you to watch and learn at home, anytime, anywhere! I create quilting workshops by filming 10 - 30 videos that guide you step-by-step through a project.

To make the videos easy to watch, I organize them together within a PDF learning guide which includes extra instructions, quilt patterns, and worksheets to go along with the class.

You can watch the videos in these workshops online or you can download them onto your computer. The videos never expire so you can watch as many times as you need in order to learn the techniques and create the project. Learn more about the quilting workshops that are on sale right now:

The Great Prewashing Debate
This week I'm taking on another Great Quilting Debate: whether to prewash fabric before making your quilt or not.

Yes, I do think prewashing fabric is a super important step in the quiltmaking process! Here's the reasons why I wash everything unless it's too tiny and will fall apart in the washer:
  • Stops fabrics from bleeding into one another. Washing removes the excess dyes so all the fabrics remain the color they're supposed to be.
  • Eliminates the question of how to care for the finished quilt. You never have to worry about washing it and messing it up.
  • Gets all the fabric feeling and acting the same way. If all the fabrics have been washed and starched 2 times, they will all have roughly the same amount of stretch and give and be easier to piece together more accurately.
  • Erases the hard crease in the middle of fabric which is rarely square with the grainline of the fabric.
  • Makes fabric easier to square and cut accurately.
I break things down further in this week's podcast below:
That's it for this week. If you're in the US or Canada, we hope you have a relaxing and enjoying Thanksgiving!

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
