Quilting the Year Bright

Published: Wed, 12/27/17

Hi ,

Merry Christmas! I hope you had a wonderful holiday filled with joy and peace.

Josh and James and I had a very relaxing day and are now looking forward to a fun week together while James is out of school.

We're also cleaning and clearing out the quilt shop so we can start fresh with new inventory the first week of January.

If you're needing to pick up any quilting tools or supplies, make sure to check out the quilt shop as many things are on sale this week.

My Favorite Time of the Year
I know it seems odd, but this week between Christmas and New Years is my favorite time of the year. It feels like an extra bonus week and I always use this time to finish up old projects so I start the new year with a clean slate.

This year I decided to ramp up my finishing efforts by also adding a massive full craft reorganization to the mix.

I pulled out every craft box and bin, every drawer filled with ribbon and floss, every bead box and fat quarter and reorganized the entire lot at once.

This wasn't a small job, but someone had to do it. I'm so happy and relieved it's done now so I can easily find the tools, materials, and equiptment I'm looking for at any given time.
Double Stripe Quilt Pattern
This month's Quilty Box included an awesome selection of quilting tools and fabrics designed by Felice Regina. The fabric literally looked like a candy store so I went with that theme to create the Double Stripe Diamond quilt.

Learn how to make this quilt top in this new video:

Diamonds are very easy to cut. No, you don't need a special template or cutter!

Just use the lines on your ruler to cut the shapes and piece them together.

The best thing about this quilt is it's very forgiving. Even if your piecing isn't perfect, the diamonds are pieced in rows so there's no seams to match up.

I did get a lot of questions about how to quilt the Double Stripe Diamond quilt.

Would you like to see more videos on auditioning and planning designs for a quilt?

Let me know and I can start adding that to our monthly Quilty Box videos.
Word of the Year Podcast
It's the last week of the year which means it's time to share my new Words for the Year for 2018. This is something fun I've done for several years now and I find it really helps me achieve my yearly goals.

This past year in 2017, my words were Simple and Open. I don't think I would have been able to write and publish a new book if I hadn't forced myself to simplify and be open to trying new things like learning photography.

For the second half of this year, my word became Trust, which helped me overcome a lot of self doubt as the book neared completion.

I've been soul searching a lot for a new word for 2018 so listen to the podcast to hear what it is and the direction we're moving in this coming year.

Did you know you can find all the podcast episodes we've shared so far? Click Here to find all the episodes of Hello My Quilting Friends so you can binge listen while you quilt!

The podcast is also available on YouTube so you can see what I'm working on during the introduction each week. I've organized them into a playlist that will automatically play through all the episodes shared so far.
