Hi ,
Have you ever been afraid of making a quilt? I've wanted to make a Tumbling Blocks Quilt for years, but kept getting scared off from piecing one because of all the Y seams needed to piece the diamond shapes
together.
Well, this month I got the kick in the pants I needed from
Quilty Box. My box arrived with a Sidekick Ruler which cuts 60 degree diamonds, triangles, and half triangle shapes. Wait - diamonds and triangles? An idea took root and I began slicing fabric like a mad scientist on a mission.
Instead of piecing the pattern with all
diamonds, I exchanged the lightest fabrics for two triangles and suddenly - No Y SEAMS!
This type of Tumbling Blocks quilt is pieced in vertical rows and I used a simple chain piecing method to keep my pieces organized and speed up the process too. I ended up creating three Tumbling Blocks mini quilts and I'm sure there will be more in my future!
Each month I use the materials in Quilty Box to make a new quilt and share the free quilt pattern with you. It's a challenge to plan the quilt, write the pattern, and make the quilt in just a few days, but I love pushing myself to make something new.
