Hi ,
Both Josh and I were late to the cell phone world, only getting one in 2014 and Josh following almost a year later. These devices can be so distracting and do come with a host of negatives, especially with overuse by
children, but they're also so handy for so many things!
A great way to utilize quilting video instructions is via your phone, right next to your sewing machine. I know I do this all the time! However, before this new product, I'd prop up my phone with whatever I had lying around, and it often fell flat or just fell of the table.
We have a brand new phone stand which is perfect for holding your phone at the best angle for viewing while you
sew. It features the central Goddess from one of my first Goddess quilts Release Your Light.
Our Applique Quilt Along Starts June 4th |
Note: You will need this pattern if you plan to take part in our June Quilt Along.
Our
Eternal Love Goddess Quilt Along starts Monday, June 4th. I guarantee you'll find this form of applique A LOT easier than what you may imagine.
Applique looks so hard at first but with a little patience and some video instruction, anyone can do it!
We're Back to Free Motion Quilting |
This past Friday I took break from walking foot quilting to play with free motion quilting on my new sewing machine. What better way to play than to play with quilting feathers?
I've been quilting designs like this is 4-inch squares since 2009 when I first launched my goal to create 365 free motion quilting designs.
I still love pulling out these small quilt sandwiches and playing with new designs and shapes in thread
Be sure to check out Windy Feathers to see how I used this design in a hoop quilt!
You too Can Make This Fun Sunflower Hat |
A few weeks ago I created a beautiful rose flowered hat for a Kentucky Derby party. I decided to make another hat, this time with pretty sunflowers and teach you how to make one too!
Making your own flowered hat is not expensive. You just need a hot glue gun and sticks, popsicle sticks or something similar to protect your hands from the glue, an assortment of flowers and leaves and a cheap hat.
I may have spent $25 total to make this sunflower hat.
It's Quilty Box time! This month's box arrived and I decided it was time for a challenge, or technically a series of challenges, revolving around our upcoming Quilt Along Eternal Love!
Learn more about Quilty Box and how you can get a big box of fun gear and beautiful fabrics every month!
Click Here to learn more.I honestly had no idea
going into making this quilt what it would look like or if it would even work. I've never made a goddess quilt using printed fabrics and I was worried the similar colors would blend together too much and make a mess. But it turned out gorgeous, as you can see at left.
Sometimes you just have to let go of the fear of wasting your time and try something new. Yes, some of the fabrics did blend together a bit in the hair section, but it honestly doesn't matter. The overall look of the quilt is awesome!
Interview with the Quiltrovert |
This week I'm chatting with the Quiltrovert, Nika Gordham Harrison about quilting and pattern design.
Nika Gordham Harrison goes by Quiltrovert on Instagram and that name immediately caught my eye. I find it really interesting to talk to
quilters at all different stages of their quilting journey and Nika is no exception. She just got started quilting in the summer of 2017 and within just a few months she began designing her own quilts and patterns.
For some quilters, this just isn't the fun part, but clearly for Nika, designing and combining colors and creating a unique story with a quilt is exactly what she loves about the craft.
So that's it for this week! Don't forget to join
us on our Quilt Along which is starting Monday, June 4th.
You'll need the
pattern (on sale for $14.99) and if you're quick, you can also grab the last of our fabric kits which we expect to go fast.
Let's go quilt,
Leah Day |
