Happy piecing week, !
It's the first week of the month which means it's time to make a new block for the Friendship Quilt Along.
The first step is to learn how to make two fun units: QSTs, which stands for Quarter Square Triangles and HGSs which means Hourglass Squares.
Even if you're not participating in the Friendship Sampler Quilt Along, these units are great to know how to piece. Both can stand on their own as unique blocks and they're a great patchwork unit to have in your quilting toolbox.
Note: I used a very special machine in this video tutorial. I finally got my Singer 27 treadle cleaned, oiled, and running smoothly and decided to use it to piece this block. I learned so much about treadling and piecing in this process and I hope you enjoy it too.
If you'd like to make a true Friendship Quilt, you'll need a bit of fabric from all your friends. Consider organizing a swap of 5-inch squares with your local quilt guild or bee. If everyone cuts and shares a bit of their stash, all the quilts will be a lot more interesting and carry little reminders of all your quilting friends.
You can even get a bit of my fabric too!
Once these scrap packs of my stash sell out, that's all she wrote!
Baste Your Quilt Kits Are Back in Stock
|
I'm super sorry that we ran out of stock on basting kits in December. The great news is they are now back in stock!
This basting kit comes with a pack of 100 flower head pins and 100 Pinmoors, a pin anchor that caps the pin and locks it temporarily to your quilt.
And here's a quick video demonstrating how to use Pinmoors and flower head pins.
This Friday I shared a new Frame Quilting Friday video on my Grace Qnique longarm. My goal is to gain more control over my stitching and be able to echo smoothly with evenly spaced lines.
I quilted Stippling through a small square, then filled up the entire space with rows and rows of echo quilting. It wasn't perfect, but I definitely saw improvement by the end.
My Word of the Year for 2019
|
In this podcast, I reflect on the past year and on how the word Challenge has made a very big difference in my life. Then I share some exciting news and my new word for 2019.
I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I'll just say it involves a new member of the Day family...
So that's it for this week! Do you have a special word for the year in 2019? What do you hope to accomplish?
Make this the year you stop waiting to create or share what your heart needs most.
Let’s go quilt,
Leah Day
