I’ve been hibernating for the last few days as I take my first stitches with Quilter’s Creative Touch 4. QCT is software that runs a new motor under my longarm so the machine moves automatically to stitch designs.

One feature I love in QCT 4 is the ability to add an open space between the design and the seamlines of the quilt block.

 

This margin is excellent because I don’t always want to quilt a design right to the ditches of a block. It tends to look crammed into the space uncomfortably when stitched like that. It also results in denser feeling quilting, which isn’t ideal for a soft bed quilt.

It’s time to piece our 11th quilt block for the Friendship Quilt Along!

 

I went into a lot of detail this week on the scrappy tracks border.

 

This style of border is often called “Piano keys” because of the way the pieces line up.

 

The piecing is very simple, but it will test the accuracy of your 1/4-inch seam.
