Happy March, ! This month I'm diving back into my favorite traditional quilt blocks for Mini Block Monday.

 

So really - just how tiny can we get with a Square in a Square?

 

I put that to the test and found I could start with a 1 1/2-inch square in the center. I think I could go even smaller, but that might require some funky cutting sizes and you might not want to be my quilting friend after that!

 

 

Where is the pattern exactly? Written patterns are coming soon in a new book, but for right now, the pattern is in the video. Just watch carefully, pause when needed, and follow along as you make your block.

Last week we learned how to quilt a beautiful flower design I'm calling Rose is a Rose. See how I quilted this first on a home sewing machine and then on a small longarm in this video:

It might sound weird, but flexibility is a very important skill. But I don't mean the ability to tie yourself into a pretzel on your yoga mat! 

 

I mean staying flexible in your mind. It's very easy to get too rigid with a quilt and then when one thing goes wrong - can't find that fabric, make a mistake on the pattern, or it just doesn't look quite right - it's impossible to move forward.

 

Flexibility is the key to moving forward even when things aren't working out the way you expected. In last week's podcast episode #132, I share several flexible changes I'm making to the Dream Big Quilt Along and announce the new book I'm working on featuring Mini Block Monday patterns.

 

I've had to make these flexible changes due to the flood in my basement which has changed everything for our business and family in the matter of a month. I also include a walk-through of the house and share how much things have changed in very little time.

I'm gearing up for the Dream Big Quilt Along that will begin on Friday, March 13th. This quilt along will focus on ruler quilting and I'm planning to use the Slice, Super Slide, Mini Slide, and Feather Rulers.

 

 

I'm working on a quilt along guidebook that will guide you through this quilt along week by week and include extra information about how I'm going to turn my Dream Big quilts into a quilted jacket! Be looking for more info about this guidebook in next week's newsletter.
