Click Here to Preorder a Hummingbird Hoop. These are expected to arrive in early October and we hope to be shipping them on or around October 20th.
Here's the problems this free motion quilting hoop will
solve:
- 😡That "stuck" feeling of the quilt not wanting to budge cause it's caught on the edge of your machine or extension bed.
- 😫Constantly having to stop and reposition the quilt so it can move smoothly.
- 😬Inability to see where you've quilted and where to go next because the quilt is in your way.
- 😖That shoulder and back ache you get from hours of wrestling with a big quilt.
However, there are a few downsides... this is a hoop frame, which means
you will need to have your quilt layered with the backing fabric, batting, and quilt top smoothed out. This is a downside for lots of quilters who are sick of basting quilts on the floor.
Tip - I layer my quilts for hoop frames on a wall! Click Here to find the
tutorial.
You'll also need to adjust to zone quilting, which is a little different from free motion quilting without a hoop. Basically you hoop the quilt starting in the upper left corner of the quilt and stitch across in rows.
This creates a logical quilting flow - left to right, top to bottom - but it might be an adjustment if you're used to quilting from the center of your quilt and off in any direction you like.
But
even with these downsides, I think the Hummingbird Hoop is going to make free motion quilting feel easy and fun. This is designed to work on your kitchen table and includes the gliding mat (27 x 51-inches) so the wheels of the hoop don't catch on the seams of your table!
