Quick Quilt to Make from Baby Onesies

Baby quilts are on my mind this week and I've got a wonderful tutorial to share with you on making a quilt from baby onesies!

This quilt is very fast to piece with a simple stitch and flip foundation piecing method. The best part is you don't have to spend time stabilizing the small fabrics because they will be reinforced by the fabric foundation - in my case flannel.

But Will This Machine Fit In Your Space?

I love so many things about the Grace 19SD, but one of my favorite features is the quilting table - the sides collapse so you can fit this longarm machine into a 3 1/2 foot space:

Expand one leaf for 18.5 more inches of space to one side, or expand both leaves to create a 78 inch long quilting table.

Questions About Computer Quilting with QMX

A great question about the new QMX system came in this week:

What is the table size required to support the Cutie Breeze frame? Also you mention the motor and belts - I'm wondering how they connect to my machine?

These are great questions! The absolute minimum table size for a Cutie Breeze Frame is 23 x 54 inches. I found lots of table options on Amazon that will fit the Cutie Breeze frame really well. Click Here to check out a few options!

Just double check the actual dimensions before purchasing a table and make sure it's at least 23 inches deep x 54 inches wide.

Another great quilting question:

How much space will I have for quilting with a sewing machine with an 11-inch throat?

A machine like the Janome Horizon 8200 will have an 11-inch throat and fit nicely on the Cutie Breeze carriage. With this machine and using the Cutie Breeze Coil Clamps, I estimate you'll have around 6 1/2 x 32 inches of quilting space using QMX.

You may have a bit more... this is based on my estimates using the Little Rebel Sewing Machine which has a 13-inch throat. Using the Little Rebel, with the coil clamps attached, I had 8 1/2 x 32 inches of quilting space.

Space is everything when it comes to computer quilting. The more space you have you have to play, the quicker you'll finish your quilts. But even with a sewing machine and a 6.4 inch throat, I was able to quilt 2 1/2 inch rows of a spiral design... and I'm super happy with how this turned out:

Perfect Computerized Quilting with a Singer Heavy Duty 6800c and QMX!

The Singer Heavy Duty 6800C is the machine in this video. While it did take a lot of patience to quilt in such a small space, I wanted you to see that yes, it can work too! ❤️

Yes, QMX Foundations is compatible with all sewing machines, however, I think it works best if your machine has these three features:

Start / stop button - this allows you to hit "Start" in time with QMX and run the machine without a foot pedal or stitch regulator.
Needle up / down button - this allows you to easily pull up your thread tails and to baste stitch your zone before quilting the area.
Speed Selector - this allows you to select the speed to run the machine. Faster speed makes smaller stitches, a slower speed makes bigger stitches.

When running your machine this way, you are in "manual mode" which is a method of quilting where you run your machine at a steady set speed. QMX moves the sewing machine on the carriage at a steady speed, so your stitches will be consistent throughout:
