Just to give you a head's start if you want to follow along - you will need multiple quilted pieces to expand a baby quilt.

A great way to quilt these pieces is with pantographs. These are continuous line, edge-to-edge designs traced with a laser light.

This is a great method if you haven't memorized any free motion quilting designs yet. You can trace the design and gain muscle memory for patterns like Stippling, Loopy Line, and Spiraling.

New Pantograph Quilting Method - Pattern Perfect

Grace's Plastic Pattern Perfect groovy boards for quilting are on sale this month for 20% off. This system is very similar to pantograph quilting - tracing a design from the back of your quilting frame.

But unlike pantographs, with Pattern Perfect, you are locked into the design. A stylus fits into a groove in the plastic template and keeps you on track.

To get started, you'll need to pick up the Starter Kit which includes the bracket, stylus and hardware needed to attach Pattern Perfect to any Grace / Qnique longarm or sewing machine on a Grace frame carriage.

Using the stylus included in the Starter kit, you'll be able to quilt all additional designs, including Stars & Flowers, Swirls, Tulips and more.

Pantographs vs. Pattern Perfect: Which Method Fits You? 🤔

While pantograph quilting offers tremendous flexibility and a wide variety of patterns, some quilters prefer the extra stability of a lock-in groovy board system. Here's a convenient comparison:

• Pantograph Designs: Traced with a laser light and offered in a wider variety of designs. But if you're not focused, you can easily wander off course.
• Pattern Perfect: Uses a grooved board and stylus to lock your machine into the design path. This makes it easier to achieve perfectly repeated rows, but your design choices may be more limited.

Both techniques allow you to create beautiful, consistent quilting across your whole quilt, and both methods require similar accessories.
