Singer Heavy Duty 4432 - It's perfectly fine to begin quilting with a smaller sewing machine! I quilted a
4-inch square with Drunk Spiral to showcase the pattern and teach you the steps. The best thing about quiltling on a small scale: it gives you lots of practice in a small space.
These skills absolutely translate to quilting bed quilts too. So if you're a frugal quilter like me, definitely consider making some small practice sandwiches and giving this a try.

Follow a Line Quilting
As I was filming this video, I remembered my first tries at echo quilting and how hard it was to quilt consistently. If you're also feeling frustrated with free hand quilting (quilting from memory with no marks), you might want to give quilting stencils a try:
Quilting with a stencil is very simple: download the design, print it out on your printer, cut out the stencils, then quilt on the marked lines. By having a line to follow, you don't have to guess where to quilt next 🔆 This is very easy edge-to-edge quilting, stitching through one paper stencil at a time.
I've created a new Drunk Spiral Mini Quilting Stencil, so if you have a smaller sewing machine, this will be the best choice. This size will nicely fit into a smaller throat space, and once the paper is torn away, your quilt will feel soft and cuddly - perfect for bed quilts.

Never Quilt in the Dark Again

This quilt can be easily pieced in a day using one solid and one print precut 5-inch pack of fabric squares. Once you get your quilt top pieced, layer it and begin quilting with stencils. In the video above you can see how to quilt with the larger Printable Quilting Stencils.
If you have a smaller home sewing machine, I recommend using the
smaller Mini Quilting Stencils. These will fit all sewing machines, and results in a soft, cuddly quilting texture swirling all over your quilt.
