Quilted Gifts and Pointy Paisley

Published: Wed, 09/26/12

Hi ,

Have you ever had a bad reaction to a quilt you've given as a gift? It might seem crazy to us quilters, but there are some people that just don't understand what an awesome gift a quilt is.

So this week I've shared my own experience with receiving a less-than-stellar response from my son James on the UFO Sunday #5 post.  I've also shared advice on making quilts as gifts, but doing it in such a way that no feelings will be hurt (or at least not as hurt as they could be).

Find this post right here on the free motion quilting project.

Next I wanted to let you know about an awesome new book: No Sewing Until You Quilt It by Ann Holmes. This is a great applique technique for putting a quilt top together quickly, but with absolutely NO STITCHING until the top is entirely basted and ready to quilt.

Instead the quilt is built over a layer of french fuse, a lightweight fusible interfacing that is so thin you won't be able to feel it inside your quilts.

Many quilters ask if this technique is turned-edge.  Yes, it is turned edge, but the wonderful thing about Ann is her focus on creation, not perfection. If your pieces don't quite match up, it's no big deal to lift and shift do get things just right.

We're offering this book in the following combos:

Book + French Fuse - With this kit you get both the book featuring 7 projects to make with No Sewing Until You Quilt It and 1 yard of french fuse so you have the right material to use when you want to get started. This kit is on preorder for $27.95.

Super Combo - With this kit, you get Ann's new book, her step-by-step DVD, and 1 yard of french fuse. If you're a visual learner, this is a great choice because you can page through the book and watch the DVD at the same time.  This kit is on preorder for $59.95.

Both kits will start shipping on October 5th, so take advantage of the lower prices and order now!  Click here to learn more.

Now let's talk about the Free Motion Quilt Along! We're nearing the end of September which means we're finishing up with Pivoting Designs and getting ready to move on to another family of designs.

Make sure to check out the latest design, Pointy Paisley, and take some time to quilt out and play with all the designs featured this month.  Find this latest post right here.

Also remember that you don't have to stitch through all 33 quilt along posts to join in with us each week.  Just grab a fabric sandwich, try out a design, and post your progress on the free motion quilt along.

That's it for this week! I'm off to decide what family of designs to play with next...hmmm...that's going to be a hard choice!

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
