Quilting Catch Up

Published: Wed, 02/27/13

Hi ,

Yes, I officially fell off the earth this month! I'm sorry for not sending out a newsletter since early February, but at least I was being productive. I was traveling for a full 9 days to Denver, Colorado to shoot two new classes for Craftsy!

Just in case you've never heard of Craftsy, it's an amazing place to learn about all types of crafts, from quilting to weaving, from cake decorating to bead work.

My first class, Free Motion Quilting a Sampler, launched back in November and it was been an amazing experience! The platform is wonderfully interactive, allowing me to answer students questions easily and give you the help you need.
I love teaching on Craftsy because I've never found it easier to help my students one-on-one. I love taking classes on Craftsy because I've never found such high quality content on so many topics I'm interested in. I love to knit, crochet, sew, make jewelry, and even spin fiber in addition to quilting, so Craftsy has been a great place to learn many new techniques from many talented people.

Just to make up for my long lapse in sending out newsletters, here's a special link to get my class Free Motion Quilting a Sampler 50% off the normal price:

Learn how to quilt each block of a beautiful sampler quilt and learn many basics to free motion quilting at the same time!

Whew! Now that you know where I've been off to, let's catch up with the Free Motion Quilting Project:

FMQ Friday: Distortion Delimmas - Many quilters working on Express Your Love have noticed some distortion happening between quilted and unquilted areas. Check out this post to get tips on dealing with distortion and how to avoid making it works as you quilt dense filler designs.

New Version of Concentric Circles - Way back in 2009, I created a version of this design that I didn't much like. When writing the book 365 Free Motion Quilting Designs, I decided to change this design up a bit and created a better version of Concentric cirlces.

New Version of Flock of Geese - This was another design that has recently gotten a face lift! In this case, the design is very easy to quilt so long as you use a little assisted marking to make the process easier.

Fun on a New Machine! - Yep, I've traded in my Janome Horizon 7700 for a Janome Horizon 8900. Read this post to understand why I made the change and what I like best about this newer model.

How to Dye a Wholecloth Quilt - Since returning from Denver, I've been working flat out on Duchess Reigns, the wholecloth quilt I've had in progress since the fall. Check out this post to learn how she went from a white wholecloth to dark red in 2 days.
Find all of these articles and videos plus many more right here on the Free Motion Quilting Project.

Let's go quilt!
