News from Leah Day and the Free Motion Quilting Project

Hi ,

Whew! It's been a busy two weeks quilting many new designs and attending a wonderful quilting retreat called Sew South in Charlotte, NC. This time away was so amazing and inspiring that I can't wait to jump back into the sewing room and start quilting up a storm!

But first let's catch up on all the articles and videos that were posted to the project over the last two weeks:

16. Overcoming a Quilting Rut - Ever rush into a project and get stalled out halfway through? That's exactly what has happened to me with a version of Express Your Love! Learn how I'm busting through this rut by first being honest about it and openly admitting I need to stop and take the time to plan the rest of this quilt.

FMQ Friday: Go with the Flow - Sometimes life throws curve balls your way, and you just have to go with the flow. On this Friday I was sick with a stomach bug, but still stitching out a beaded version of Express Your Love.

What makes You Happy? - I've recently found an excellent audiobook to listen to while quilting called The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. This book is all feeling good by doing the things you love right now, not tomorrow, not next week. So I celebrated by having a reading picnic (something I love, but rarely do) in the front yard!

17. Learn how to quilt Zigzag Spiral - What happens when you mix Zippling and Basic Spiral? You get a pretty funky texture! Definitely check out the 382nd design to be added to the project so far!

Amazing Sew South Retreat - It's hard to describe just how awesome it was to sit and sew with 50 women willing to cheer one another on with every completed project, but I've done my best! It was amazing, fun, challenging, and the absolute epitome of "my cup runneth over."

Fun Chat with Pat Sloan - Pat is back with American Patchwork and Quilting Radio Show and in this episode we chatted it up about batting. I know, I know, batting definitely seems like a boring thing to talk about for 10 minutes, but it might open your eyes to just how much this middle layer can affect your finished quilt.

18. Learn how to Quilt Wiggle Wiggle Spiral - Let's try a variation of Zigzag Spiral, only this time wiggling simple U shaped stippling to make a different, wiggly texture. It's fun, simple, and sure to be a big hit on any kid quilt!
