Fun with Foundation Quilting Designs

Hi ,

It's almost the end of May! Finally! This has not been an easy month and last week my brain was so fried I could barely write or quilt anything coherent.

This week is running much more smoothly and I've shared three beautiful foundational designs on the Free Motion Quilting Project that you're sure to love! The first design we learned is a variation of Ocean Currents. Let's see what happens when we change just one little thing about that design:
Whoa! Totally different texture and beautiful effect for your quilt! You'll have to click here to find out exactly what extra step was added to create Connecting Ocean Currents.

The next design we learned is called Inside the Sun:
This is a Foundational design with a twist! Rather than just stitching one single line to get started, for this design you stitch two foundations and then echo repeatedly to fill up all the remaining space. I'm really loving this new way to form foundational designs and plan to experiment with it a lot in the coming week.

Today we've learned another cool new texture called Ribbon Stage. It's the design stitched out in the water of the Earth:
Yep, this design was inspired by candy making. From what I vaguely know about candy making, you have to heat sugar and water mixture to just the right temperature and look for a ribbon effect on the surface of the mixture.

Have you ever made homemade hard candy? I once ate some awesome clove candy made by a friend, but never got the recipe. It was super sweet, but also spicy and had the power to numb your whole mouth if you ate more than 2 pieces (which I definitely did!)

If you've ever made clove candy and wish to share the recipe, please reply to this email and let me know! I'd really love to give candy making a try, particularly clove flavored candy as it was super delicious!

Now today is the very last day of school for James so I'd better get off the computer and onto my sewing machine if I want to make the most of this last quiet day.

Let's go quilt!
