News from Leah Day
Hi ,
With the whirlwind launch of our new website at LeahDay.com and James starting kindergarten, it's been a busy week! Let's catch up on all the articles and videos posted to the Free Motion Quilting Project this week:
FMQ Friday: Feathers and Pleats - For this Friday post, I shared more photos of the new video background quilt and many issues that have cropped up while quilting. Yes, I do make lots of mistakes, especially when I'm quilting through a project very quickly!

48. Learn how to Quilt Pearled Feather - This is the 400th design posted to the project! Come check out this cool variation of feathers with circles (pearls) in the vine line that, with practice, can be stitched without marking.

49. Foundation Piecing Triangles - Have you been following along with the new pieced version of Express Your Love? Find another inspirational adventure in foundation piecing as we create the orange section and form triangle shapes in a row.
FMQ Friday: Tales of Patience and Insanity - Is there a difference between being extremely patient with a tedious project and being completely insane for taking it on in the first place? Check out my insanity over 1/4 inch hexagons in this Friday link up.
50. Learn how to Quilt Missing Piece - Here's a neat design full of squares and straight lines. For some reason this feels a bit masculine to me so I think it would be a great choice on any guy quilt.

Back on a Schedule and Getting Organized
- With school back in session, it's time to get back on track and organized. I've decided to set aside 2 hours a day to quilt on Duchess Reigns, and while I can't knockout huge sections of that complex quilt, it is finally making some progress.

Learn 50 Designs and Quilt a Soft Throw Quilt
One of the #1 questions I'm asked about quilting is how to make a bed quilt soft and cuddly, even with pretty free motion quilting designs. It's no secret that I quilt mostly on a small, dense scale, which works great for wall hanging, but is usually too stiff and time consuming for a bed quilt.
So last February I sat down and designed a pretty throw sized quilt with simple blocks and space for 50 designs. This Woven Colors quilt then went with me to Denver to shoot the Craftsy class Free Motion Fillers Volume 1.

In this class, you'll learn loads about quilting on your home machine, how to set up and get started, and how to deal with the bulk and weight of the quilt on your machine.

If you're wanting to learn how to quilt soft bed quilts on your home sewing machine, this is the class for you! Click here to get 50% off Free Motion Fillers Volume 1.

That's it for this week! I'm ready to pull out some paint and finish up the video background quilt. The sooner it's done, the sooner I can shoot more videos!

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
