I'm not a crafting octopus

News from Leah Day
Hi ,
Thanks a bunch for your kind emails from last week's newsletter on stitching silly thoughts. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who sometimes struggles with a negative Quilt Police critic in her head!

This week I've been working on another monster lurking in my house: the beast of clutter and junk that is making me crazier by the day!

As a multi-crafter, I have supplies for different crafts in almost every room in the house. From knitting and beading in the guest bedroom to quilting in the basement, every room seems to be packed with STUFF.

One eureka moment came this morning when I realized this (probably obvious) truth:

I can only work on one thing at a time.

Now I don't mean I can't have multiple projects going on at once. I mean I can't actually physically work on two projects at the same time.

I can't knit a sweater and quilt a baby quilt at the same time. I can't piece a log cabin block and be beading a new necklace at the same time. At no point in my life will I ever be able to crochet with only one hand so the other hand can be icing a cake!

It's high time I start putting projects away after I've finished working on them for the day. Having knitting stuff, beading stuff, spinning stuff, and quilting stuff out all the time just makes for a chaotic and stressful living environment.

By the end of the day I'll have all these projects tucked back in to boxes, cabinets, and shelves, where they can easily be pulled back out whenever I want to work on them, but no longer out in my space, reminding me by their clutter that I haven't worked on them in a few days or weeks or months.

What can I say? I've finally accepted that I'm not a crafting octopus!

So with that rant about clutter out of my system, let's check in with the Free Motion Quilting Project and see what new designs were posted this week:
66. Free Motion Quilting Oblivion, Design #411 - Here's a funky design combining multiple designs into one swirling texture! It all starts with a simple wiggly line, form a football shape, then stitch a spiral, then fill in the rest of the space with bouncy echoes....well, you might just want to watch the video to see all the steps!
67. Free Motion Quilting Amazing Daisies, Design #412 - This floral design has a lot of texture going on, especially when you fillĀ  up your quilting space completely with repeated lines of echo quilting. While it might look complicated, this design actually starts with a super simple foundation. If you can quilt the starting daisy chain line, chances are you can easily fill in the rest of the design and get lots of practice echo quilting at the same time!
