Free Motion Quilting Wiggly U's

Published: Thu, 01/16/14

HiĀ ,
Are you ready to start free motion quilting? We've got a great set of posts for you this week, perfect for getting started on the right foot!

Last week we learned how to Piece a Four Patch block and pieced three blocks together. For the rest of the month we will learn how to quilt different designs into this four patch block.

This week I shared post #2. How to Quilt a 4 Patch with Wiggly U Shapes. This super simple design is a great skill builder for stippling, and really helps you get the feel for moving the block smoothly with soft curves.
After posting my video, Josh decided to give it a try and posted Josh's Wiggly U Shapes. We even shot a video together so you can see exactly how Josh worked through a section of his block in free motion.

We also discussed some issues that happened within the block and some solutions. The main goal for this project is learning and building skill, so even if you don't quilt perfectly, you're still going to create a terrific quilt!

Also posted today was a short article on How to Start and Stop Quilting so if you're confused about how to secure your threads as you start or stop stitching, definitely check out this article so you can get started on the right foot.

Please remember that you can get started on the Building Blocks Quilt Along at anytime and work at your own pace. The videos we are posting weekly will remain online even after 2014, so feel free to get going any time you like!
New Embroidery CD
It's finally here! Last year I teamed up with Janome America to create my first embroidery CD featuring designs from the Free Motion Quilting Project.

Click here to learn more about this embroidery CD

This CD contains 50 designs in a variety of sizes, which can be stitched out at the touch of a button. If you're wanting to create elaborately quilted table runners and wall hangings, this collection of designs is perfect for you!

Machine Compatibility: This is an Embroidery CD containing digitized designs suitable for a computerized embroidery machine. 40 of the designs will fit into a 4" (140mm x 140mm) hoop, however 10 designs must be stitched in a larger 8" (230mm x 230mm) size hoop. You can resize the designs both on your sewing machine and in your own embroidery software.

The supported file types include: exp, pes, pcs, dst, hus, jef, xxx.
Printed Pattern Coming Soon
You guys have spoken and we are listening! We've heard from hundreds of quilters from around the world who just aren't able to download and print the Building Blocks Quilt Pattern.

So next week we will be offering a printed version of the pattern for $30.00. This pattern weighs 1.25 pounds, so check your shipping rate here.

This pattern will be an unbound black & white copy containing 104 pages. We've included the extra pages required for certain block templates, so you will have everything you need to get started piecing and quilting your blocks.

If you've already purchased the download version and now want the physical, printed version, we will refund your original order so you can get the version you want.

Download Issues - if you are still experiencing download issues of any kind, please click here to contact us and get the help you need.

Whew! It's a busy time for quilting and a wonderful time to be a teacher! I'm really loving this experience helping so many quilters learn how to piece and free motion quilt. Just remember you can jump into this project any time because the videos and posts will remain online even after this year.

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
