Free Motion Quilting Spirals

Published: Thu, 01/30/14

HiĀ ,
Have you ever tried free motion quilting spiral designs? This week we tackled this shape in a four patch block and learned loads about moving the block on the machine in this smooth, circular motion.
Click here to watch the video on Spirals. In my post I also shared a helpful visualization if you're struggling with your negative inner critic.

The fact is, free motion quilting can be challenging to master and you will likely see a lot of ugly stitches in the beginning of this project. It's tough to see this kind of imperfection, particularly if you're really good at piecing already.
And just to give you an idea the not-so-perfect stitches I'm talking about, Josh has also shared his experience with spirals this week:

Understand that this is one of those designs that can look easy, but might feel really challenging. Remember it's never a waste of time or materials to practice a design on scrap fabric before trying it on your real quilt block.

Also posted to the Free Motion Quilting Project this week is a fun new pivoting design called Kidney Stones:
This beautiful design will be a perfect to practice pebbling and echo quilting. In the Kidney Stones video right here I demonstrated how to quilt this design on a small scale into a 4 inch block.

But this isn't the only way this design can be quilted! In the Craftsy Class Free Motion Fillers Volume 1, you can learn how to quilt Kidney Stones on a much larger scale, perfect for bed quilting. Click here to save 50% on Free Motion Fillers Volume 1.
No International Shipping for 2 Weeks
Due to an issue with USPS shipping, we're not able to ship international orders for the next 2 weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes, and we do plan to restore international shipping as fast as possible.

We plan to have this system working again by the Valentine's Day sale starting on February 12th.
