FMQ Wiggly U's and Teeth?

Published: Tue, 03/18/14

Hi ,
This week we're learning how to quilt two super simple designs in a super simple block, but before we get started, here's a quick reminder about our St Patrick's Day sale!
Yes, for this week only you can get the Building Blocks Quilt Pattern for only $18!

This is a great time to join in the fun of our super popular quilt along and finally master the basics of free motion quilting on your home sewing machine.

Here's what a few quilters have had to say about the Building Blocks Quilt Along experience so far:

"This is a fantastic learning opportunity and the pace makes it easy to stay current and still work on other projects. Thank you from someone who is finally learning to machine quilt."

"Working a single block a week is great for me. That way I can still work on other projects and not feel I'm falling behind since I don't have a lot of spare time for "class" work."

"I love the pace, delivery and content. I think it all seems so much less intimidating to have a new quilter, Josh, quilting each part. If he can do it, so can I!"

Yes, if Josh can do it, so can you! Join in with over 2000 quilters and jump into the only quilt along that will teach you not just piecing, but also free motion quilting from a true blue beginner perspective!

Click here to pick up the downloadable Building Blocks Quilt Pattern for $18.

Since we know lots of quilters prefer the printed version, we've also discounted it $5 during this sale, so you can click here to order the PRINT version for $25.

Now let's catch up on the new designs we've learned this week:
At the beginning of the month we learned how to piece a Rail Fence block, which is a super easy block because there's no seams to match up. Just stitch the strips together and you're ready to quilt!

This week we're quilting this block with two simple designs: Wiggly U Shapes and Teeth. Click here to watch this week's video.

I stitched this design mostly on the marked lines, but also demonstrated how easy the wiggly U shapes and teeth can be to quilt free hand. No, the design won't perfectly match the planned quilting guide, but be more of a reflection of your personal signature on the quilt.

Josh also enjoyed this design and played with stitching it in multiple directions to find what felt most natural and easy quilt. It's always a good idea to rotate your block and reposition your hands often until you find what feels most comfortable for you. Click here to watch Josh's video on Wiggles & Teeth
Just in case you're looking for it, Click here to find the Spoonflower cheater cloth fabric Josh is using for his blocks.

And YES! We will be coming out with a new Spoonflower panel soon that features bright, cheerful colors. Stay tuned for news about this new option for joining in the fun of this project!

Have you missed any posts from the Building Blocks Quilt Along? Remember you can find ALL the posts and videos shared about this project right here.

So that's it for this week! Enjoy learning these simple quilting designs and remember that perfection is not the point of this project - having fun, learning new skills, connecting with other quilters, and accepting yourself and your skills at this moment - this is the goal we're working towards every single week.

And I think the most important goal out of that list - have FUN!

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
