Quilting Lines, Wiggles, and Stories from Quilt Market

Published: Wed, 05/21/14

Hi ,
We're still playing catch-up this week after traveling to the spring International Quilt Market. It was an amazing experience, but definitely took both Josh and I out of our normal routine so we even missed sending last week's newsletter!

So this week we'll catch you back up to all that's going on, all our exciting news and announcements, and get back on track with the Building Blocks Quilt Along.

To start, let's check out our most popular book at quilt market!
Free Motion Quilting from Feathers to Flames was the star of our booth because this little mini book is perfect for teaching workshops. The designs are not only organized by both difficulty level and family design type, the book also includes simple how-to instructions that make understanding the designs easier.

Of course, if you just can't figure out how to quilt any of the designs in the book, you can easily look up the free videos online and see how they are stitched.

Of course this is just one of the many products we carry at LeahDay.com. Make sure to check our our Quilt Shop for any tools and supplies you're needing for free motion quilting and help support the free videos we post each week online. We appreciate your support!
Building Blocks Quilt Along
We now need to catch up on the last two weeks of the Building Blocks Quilt Along! It's amazing just how fast this month is zooming past. The good news is both of these designs are similar, so they shouldn't be too challenging to tackle on your Cheater Drunkard's Path Block.
Here's the first design for this block: Line and Grids and we not only learned how to knock out the quarter circle corners, we also learned how to cover the raw edges of those shapes with free motion zigzag!

Also check out Josh's post here and catch his perspective on this design as well!

THIS week we basically took the same design and exchanged all the straight lines for wiggly lines and created post #20. Wiggly Lines in a Cheater Drunkards Path Block
Josh quilted this design too and posted about the quilt market trip as well. Josh loved Pittsburgh, PA and is planning to drive back up at some point for a fun trip with James sometime this summer or fall.
Fun at Quilt Market
Over the weekend, I worked hard to post daily the news from quilt market, so we would be able to remember all that happened during the show.

My first post was Busy Day at Quilt Market which was all about our first day on the show floor arranging the booth and organizing flyers and products for everyone to see.

I admit I got caught a bit by the comparing monster, but by the end of the day I was feeling great about the booth and really happy we'd come as exhibitors.
Next I shared the post My Feet are Sore by I'm Smiling with details about the first day of quilt market.

Yes, it is a VERY big show with lots of aisles to walk, and you'll want to walk through all of it at least once to see all the amazing things on display.

The next quilt market post was Amazing People to Meet! and my total surprise to meet Eleanor Burns from Quilt in a Day and find that she already knew who I was. That wonderful meeting really made my whole year!

Of course, that wasn't the only quilting superstar I met over the weekend. Check out the post the Last Day of Quilt Market to hear the final details of this amazing trip!

So that's it for this week! It's been a whirlwind trip and I'm so glad I'm home, but I know I'll never forget this first quilt market and the amazing people we met along the way.

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
