Building Blocks Quilt Along
This week we're continuing with our Disappearing 9 Patch blocks. We've pieced the block and are ready to begin free motion quilting. Our first is Lines and Stars, a fireworks inspired design which was perfect for the weekend of July the 4th!
You'll also want to see how Josh tackled this design. Here is his interpretation of Lines and Stars in his spoonflower cheater fabric.
We are picking up the pace of our Quilt Along so we have one more design for you this week, Circles and Spirals in a Disappearing 9 Patch.

You definitely do not want to miss Josh's unique spin on this design; he omitted the little circles entirely!

In the event you haven't joined in yet, you can get started today with the Building Blocks Quilt Pattern. The pattern contains all the cutting and piecing instructions, as well as 42 quilting guides so you can mark you block with the designs like the one above.

Intentional, or Accidental Mistakes?
This week I've been stitching and photographing piecing mistakes, like mismatched seams and blunt triangle points.

I decided to add photos of mistakes because I remember that being such a confusing part about quilt piecing. WHY is this happening? What can I do better next time? It's a fun addition to the book because I can answer those questions and take some of the mystery out of perfect piecing.

But I also made a few mistakes all on my own, mostly because I got in a hurry and didn't take the time to double check what I was doing. When piecing a 4 patch block I accidentally forgot to piece right sides together and ended up with this (pictured at right).

Until next week, let's go quilt!
