HiĀ ,

Whew! This crazy month of May is nearly over and it will be finally time to relax into the calmer pace of summer. Even better, we're getting ready to tackle some incredible new blocks in the Building Blocks Quilt Along!
Just in case you haven't joined in this fun program yet, all you need to get started is a copy of the Building Blocks Quilt Pattern.

SALE! For the remainder of May, get $6 off this pattern!

The pattern comes with all the piecing information, material list, and 42 full size guides for you to mark your blocks. By marking the designs, you can stitch right on the line and have an easier time learning how to free motion quilt each design.

If you're already familiar with free motion quilting, try quilting the blocks without marking to gain more skills at moving the sandwich under your needle and filling the block spaces fluidly with each design. There's definitely something for everyone to learn with the Building Blocks Quilt!

So far we've learned how to piece and quilt these 16 beautiful blocks together:
Between Josh and I, we've now posted over 6 hours of videos to the Building Blocks Video Playlist! You can go to Youtube, click on the playlist and each video will automatically play in order they were posted.

So what is new for this week? On Monday I posted the final design for our Cheater Drunkards Path block: Spirals and Echoes:

Josh also gave Spirals and Echoes a try and found it to be a fun, skill building design. The echoes in the quarter circle corners are a nice way to practice before tackling the echoes around the center spiral.

Remember, free motion quilting is a skill you have to work at daily. This is much more like playing a musical instrument, and no one becomes a famous soloist overnight.

The more you free motion quilt and experience the quilt sandwich gliding under your needle, the easier it will be to control your quilt, shift it exactly to the proper position, and quilt any shape you can imagine.

But yes, the practice to become proficient isn't going to look perfect. Josh's wobbly quilting lines have sometimes sparked unkind remarks, but ultimately he's happy to show that yes, it is possible to build skill by working on real quilt. If he can do this, YOU can do this too!

So if you haven't joined in this fun quilt along yet, now is the time. Pick up your Building Blocks Quilt Pattern and save $6 until June 1st!

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
