Circles and Butterflies

Published: Wed, 09/17/14

Hi ,
I have to start today with a huge thank you to everyone who bought my new book How to Piece Perfect Quilts!

I worked so hard on this latest book all summer and I'm so happy to read how well it's being received. My goal was to help quilters learn how to piece perfectly, unlearn bad habits that they've picked up along the way, and most of all feel confident in their piecing abilities.

It means so much to both Josh and I to read emails, facebook posts, and tweets on how the book is helping you with your piecing.

If you've read the book, would you mind doing us a quick favor and reviewing it on Amazon? That would help us out tremendously!

Building Blocks Quilt Along
We're moving right along through our basket quilt blocks. This week we have quilted Wiggles and Circles though a few of my circles were so wobbly I had to hide their wonkiness with spirals!

Remember as you quilt this block that it's far easier to hide your mistakes than rip them out. Just throw more thread at it and your block is going to look great!

Wonder how Josh quilted this block? Watch Josh's take on Circles and Wiggles right here.

Yes, I know circles are the least favorite design of the year. They are challenging even for me, even marking every single shape on the quilt. I'm not exactly sure why - maybe it has to do with swinging around the circle and not being able to see the entire thing as you stitch it.

Getting Lost in Lace
One of my major goals is to get more familiar with embroidery and learn how to design and digitize beautiful designs that my machine can stitch out with a touch of a button.

Why am I so fascinated by this? Because you can make gorgeous things that used to take months or years by hand and now we can make them in minutes.

Take this little guy for example...
This is a beautiful freestanding lace butterfly from Urban Threads. I've seen ads for Urban Threads and their funky, steampunk and gothic inspired designs. Yesterday I finally bit the bullet and went searching through their free standing lace designs and fell in love with the Evenfall Lace collection
That's all the news for this week! Learn something fun and challenge yourself to try something totally new and out of your comfort zone. What's the worst that can happen? What's the BEST that can happen?

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
