New Quilts, Less Choice!

Published: Wed, 11/12/14

Hi ,

Is this month flying by or what? The days of November are quickly slipping away and before you know it the holidays will be here!

This year I've decided to keep Christmas simple with handmade gifts I can create with James and Josh. I've been inspired to try many easy food gifts like Limoncello and chocolate bark from the Craftsy class Sweet & Savory Food Gifts.
I like the idea of keeping these gifts very simple, day long projects so we don't get overwhelmed trying to finish loads of projects right at the last minute. I've also been watching Quick Quilted Gifts for easy projects I can slice and stitch quickly.

The best part about sewing a few gifts is it's helping me teach James the basics of cutting and piecing. He LOVES using my AccuQuilt Go cutter, so I know many things we make this holiday will feature those shapes cut in fabric and paper.
Leah's New Quilt: The Dream Goddess
Yes, I've started a new goddess quilt and for the first time ever I was able to take it from wrinkly fabric to a completed quilt top in just two days!

I used the easiest construction method - No Sewing Until You Quilt It - to put this top together. It's simple, it's quick and it doesn't require a masters degree in complication or tedium to connect the pieces together.

What I love the most is the reveal in the end when you pull all the freezer paper away and reveal the fabrics beneath. It's like a big surprise at the end - TA DA! I love it!

In the video I mention a book I'm reading - the Paradox of Choice - a terrific book that explains how having an infinite number of choices can actually be a bad thing. The more choices you have, the harder it is to pick between different options. And the longer you take to make a decision, the more likely you are to regret whatever decision you eventually make.

After reading this book I'm actively limiting my choices and not second guessing. Once a decision is made, it's OVER. Let it go already. There will always be another quilt to make another choice with!

How about you? Do you like the idea of limiting choices and not second guessing, or is this the fun part of quilting for you?

Thoughts as I Finish Dancing Butterfly
Yes, just as you might be finishing your Building Blocks quilt, I am finishing my Dancing Butterfly Quilt so I can shoot photos of the full quilt tomorrow morning. As I was stitching on the last leg of the binding, I got to thinking about the purpose of this quilt and how things have changed over the years.

Josh happened downstairs at just the right moment so I had him grab a camera and capture my thoughts. Click Here to watch this Casual Cam video.

Now that the quilt is done (YAY!) I'm turning my attention to the pattern and Josh is working hard on the videos. We're hoping to have this new quilt pattern ready for our big Cyber Monday Sale on December 1st!

So that's it for this week! We've had a great reaction so far to the Casual Cam style videos. What do you think? Are you missing new instruction on free motion quilting? Don't worry - we'll definitely be learning loads together with the new quilt along and design videos starting in January!

Also remember we have more than 750 videos for you to watch and enjoy already and you can subscribe to our YouTube Channel right here so you don't miss out on any new videos we share.

Let's go quilt!
