Beautiful Options for Dancing Butterfly

Published: Thu, 01/08/15

HiĀ ,

This week we've kicked off our new Dancing Butterfly Quilt Along with a few posts to get you started:

Picking Fabric Colors: If pink and purple are just not your thing, definitely check out this colorful post to find loads of inspiration for alternative color ideas.

I've shared a few new colorways for the quilt as well as photos from members of the Dancing Butterfly Facebook Group as well!
I HATE Butterflies - Actually I don't hate butterflies, but I've heard from many quilters that aren't really into this shape so I've prepared a few alternatives for you to check out.

Many quilters are changing up the design to incorporate an applique shape that better fits their style or needs for this new quilt. I've so far seen elephants, leaves, and spools of thread, but there are many other versions being created and shared in this quilt along!

So if the butterflies have been putting you off, just remember that you're always welcome to change them up and do your own thing. It's YOUR quilt after all and you'll learn even more if you challenge yourself to think outside the box and make it your own.

Just in case you haven't picked up your copy of the Dancing Butterfly Quilt Pattern, now is the time to jump in while the patterns are on sale:

Valid through Sat, Jan 10th

Introducing The Quilter's Back Support
Josh and I have just added an awesome new quilting tool to the Quilt Shop. The Quilting Back Support is an adjustable back support brace that comfortably improves your posture while quilting and sewing.

When adjusted properly, a two pound weight rests at your low back, and acts like a gentle counter weight to your body's natural tendency to curl forward.

I've struggled with bad posture for most of my life, but after finding this new tool, I'm seeing and feeling a huge improvement in my back and neck.

New Class - Fill with Feathers
I'm teaching a new class at We're Sew Creative in Concord, NC on January 31st called Fill with Feathers: Blocks, Sashing, and Borders.

This class focuses on how to use different feather designs in the major spaces of a quilt and how to plan your quilting designs using both marked designs and free hand (unmarked) quilting. This class is designed for quilters who have some experience with free motion quilting, or who have taken a class with me previously in person.

Yep, I've been bitten by the bug
The new years organizing bug that is! I've been pulling out my closets and finally got around to cleaning off my desk (after I found it under a massive load of papers). Click Here to watch a casual cam with some tips on keeping your office tidy this year.

So that's it for this week! Make sure to take advantage of our extended New Years Sale and save 35% on all download books, patterns, and DVDs until Saturday!

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
