The Rein of the Duchess

Published: Wed, 03/04/15

HiĀ ,

It's another rainy day in NC and today I'm finally putting the finishing touches on Duchess Reigns, a huge hand-dyed wholecloth quilt I've been working on since 2012.

In order to finish this quilt, I needed to block it so it will hang flat and straight on the wall. Learn how I blocked Duchess Reigns in the new video How to Block a Quilt.

Do you have a big project that's taken years to complete? What was your stumbling block?

Yes, it's far easier to start new projects than finish older projects, but somebody has got to do it! I'm very glad I took some time off from Duchess Reigns, but I'm equally happy that I've returned to this project and finally have it finished and ready to show.

Snow Fabric Dying

We had another round of snow days last week with around 4 inches of snow on the ground. After a bout of sledding and snowman-making with my husband and son, I headed straight for my dyeing room to do some snow dyeing.

I added a layer around an inch thick so I couldn't see the fabric below. It's was kinda tricky to place the snow on the fabric without grabbing a fistful and compacting it in my hand. I ended up with some big hard ice balls in there along with some more powdery, fluffy snow.

So that's it for this week!

There's lots going on and always loads of videos to watch and enjoy on the Free Motion Quilting Project.

Let's go quilt,

Leah Day
